Russia is drawing up plans to host a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Moscow, according to the Kremlin.
Last month, Mr Putin invited Mr Kim to visit his country but details about where and when the talks could take place have yet to be decided.
The latest comments from the Kremlin come after a visit by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to North Korea.
Mr Pompeo went there to discuss Pyongyang's nuclear disarmament and set up another meeting between Mr Kim and President Donald Trump following on from June's summit in Singapore.
Earlier this year, the US and North Korea began talks over Mr Kim's controversial nuclear weapons programme.
A senior US official said getting a deal on denuclearisation is going to be a "long haul" in the immediate aftermath of Mr Pompeo's fourth visit to the isolated state's capital city.
But the official - part of Mr Pompeo's delegation - did say the trip had gone "better than the last time".
After Mr Pompeo left North Korea in July, hailing progress, Mr Kim's government denounced him for making "gangster-like demands".
Mr Pompeo and Mr Kim did not meet on that occasion but did this time, and were filmed smiling warmly in what appeared to be a convivial atmosphere.
They met for about two hours, including lunch at a prestigious state guesthouse.
Later, South Korea said the North had agreed to hold a second summit with the US as soon as possible, following the landmark event between Mr Trump and Mr Kim in the summer.
