A search for a man who "jumped" off a ferry near Portsmouth Harbour has been suspended.
Passengers alerted crew after the man went overboard on the 10.30am Wightlink service from Portsmouth to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight
An "extensive" search was launched as two lifeboats, a helicopter, harbour patrol vessels and a vessel from the Royal Navy were all called in.
However, the search has been suspended and the case is now being treated as a missing person inquiry.
Wightlink said it was "saddened" that the "search for a man who jumped" had been ended.
A spokeswoman added: "Passengers on board the 10.30am sailing to Fishbourne, who witnessed the incident, alerted the crew.
"The captain of St Cecilia immediately launched the ship's rescue boat.
"Several other vessels joined the search.
"This is now a missing person inquiry, led by Hampshire Police."
