Police have arrested a sixth man in connection with an apparent acid attack on a three-year-old boy in Worcester.

The suspect, aged 41 and from London, was taken into custody in the capital overnight on suspicion of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm.

Five other men have already appeared in court after being charged by West Mercia Police following the incident, which happened while the boy was with his family at a Home Bargains store on 21 July.

Among the five suspects are his 39-year-old father, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

The others who appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday were Adam Cech, 27, and Jan Dudi, 25, from Birmingham; Norbert Pulko, 22, from London; and Jabar Paktia, 41, from Wolverhampton.

All of them were remanded in custody to appear at Worcester Crown Court on 28 August.

The boy - who prosecutors have said is now "in a place of safety" with his mother - was in a pushchair at the time of the alleged attack and suffered serious burns to his face and an arm.

He was discharged from hospital the day after, but the long-term implications of his injuries are not yet known.
