Stan Lee was the original superhero to comic fans around the world, the brilliant mind behind dozens of extraordinary characters.
From Spider-Man to Ant-Man, Black Widow to Hulk, the writer and editor's creations started on the page and grew into Hollywood blockbusters.
His characters had super powers but they also had their flaws, giving fans an insight into their human side - a formula which saw Lee, alongside artists such as Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, turn Marvel into a major comic book brand in the 1960s.
