The grandson of Winston Churchill has become the latest Conservative MP to warn his own Government of the challenge from Jeremy Corbyn.

Sir Nicholas Soames, who has represented the Tories in the House of Commons since 1983, said his party's offer to voters had become "dull, dull, dull".

In one of his favoured lengthy hashtags, the Mid Sussex MP wrote on Twitter on Monday: "Where's the bold and brave? So far, it's dull, dull, dull.

"It really won't be enough to get people to vote against The Corbini.

"They must have really sound reasons to vote Conservative.

"We really need to get on with this. #wherestheboldandbravesofaritsdulldulldull."

The former defence minister's comments came just days after ousted Tory MP Nick Boles complained that the Government "constantly disappoints".

Mr Boles, who lost his seat in the June election, tweeted at the weekend: "There is a timidity and lack of ambition about Mrs May's Government which means it constantly disappoints.

"Time to raise your game, Prime Minister. #worboys #HousingCrisis #NHSfunding #etcetc."

Challenged about the comments, Downing Street said it was "getting on with the job of building a stronger economy and a fairer society".

Mrs May's spokesman cited cuts in stamp duty for first-time buyers, the race disparity audit and a 25-year environmental plan.

They added: "Of course, we know there is more to do and the Prime Minister is committed to getting on and delivering."
