President Trump's lawyers have wrapped up their defence of the commander-in-chief against the Democrats' impeachment case, framing the trial as a violation of the US constitution.

Jay Sekulow, a member of the White House defence team, framed the whole trial as politically motivated. Mr Sekulow said the Democrats want to "throw out a successful president on the eve of an election with no basis and in violation of the constitution".
