Two Just Stop Oil protesters have been arrested at Heathrow Airport after spraying orange paint in Terminal 5.

Pictures posted by the group show two women sitting inside Heathrow Terminal 5 after spraying paint on passenger information screens, the floor, windows and walls.

The Metropolitan Police said they have been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and added officers "remain in the area to deal with any further offences".

Just Stop Oil said the protest at Heathrow is part of an international campaign called Oil Kills, and said 21 groups across 12 countries have demonstrated at 18 airports so far.

The group also said the international campaign follows reports that the world experienced its hottest days on record two days in a row last week.

A Heathrow spokesperson said in a statement: "Working with partners we have quickly resolved a protest incident in Terminal 5 and all involved have been removed from the airport.

"The airport continues to operate as normal and passengers are travelling as planned.

"We are in full agreement that the aviation industry needs to decarbonise, but unlawful and irresponsible protest activity is not the way forward and will not be tolerated."

It comes a day after the group staged a protest at Gatwick Airport, where seven activists used suitcases with lock-on devices to demonstrate near a security gate.

Sussex Police said eight protesters were arrested on suspicion of interfering with public infrastructure.

It also comes after two Just Stop Oil activists were found guilty of criminal damage last week after throwing soup over Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers painting.
