UK heatwave: How does 2018 compare with the record-breaking summer of 1976?

As people continue to battle through this year's enduring heatwave, many are drawing comparisons with the scorching summer of 1976.
The heatwave more than 40 years ago was one of the longest in living memory and led to the most significant droughts for at least 150 years.
And just like the summer of 1976, the UK is set to see the current heatwave interrupted by heavy storms over the next few days.
The highest recorded temperature in 1976 was 35.6C (96.1F) on 28 June in Southampton.
The highest temperature the UK has seen so far this year is the 33.3C (91.9F) recorded in Suffolk on Monday.
However, forecasters are predicting temperatures could yet climb as high as 37C (98.6F).
