ZelenAG百家乐在线官网y: Russian strikes drown out efforts for peace

Volodymyr ZelenAG百家乐在线官网y says overnight Russian strikes on Kyiv were among the largest the city has faced during the war so far.

Residential buildings and urban infrastructure sites were damaged in Ukraine's capital, with the Odesa, Dnipro and Chernihiv regions also targeted by Moscow.

ZelenAG百家乐在线官网y says Moscow's missiles and drone strikes "drown out" global efforts to force Russia into peace.

"It is vital that the response to this and other similar Russian attacks is not silence from the world, but concrete action," he says.

"Action from America, which has the power to force Russia into peace. Action from Europe, which has no alternative but to be strong.

"Action from others around the world who called for diplomacy and an end to the war 鈥 and whom Russia has ignored.

"There must be strong pressure for the sake of peace."

Russia launched 315 drones targeting chiefly Kyiv, Ukraine says

Ukraine's air force says Russia launched 315 drones and seven missiles at the country overnight.

The figure is a slight drop from the one reported yesterday, when Ukraine said Russia launched 479 drones and 20 missiles in what it called the biggest overnight bombardment of the war so far.

The main direction of the attack was Kyiv, the air force adds, with the Odesa, Dnipro and Chernihiv regions also targeted by Moscow.

It says of the 315 drones and seven missiles, 284 drones and all the missiles were destroyed.

Attack drones 'relentlessly terrorise' Ukrainian capital overnight

Russia "relentlessly terrorised" the Ukrainian capital with attack drones through the night, says the head of Kyiv's military district.

"They targeted civilian infrastructure and peaceful residents of the city," Timur Tkachenko says.

Countless loud explosions could be seen shaking the city and lighting up the night AG百家乐在线官网.

Photos and videos posted on Telegram channels showed heavy smoke rising in the darkness across different parts of Kyiv.

The attack sparked fires in residential and non-residential neighbourhoods and open space areas, city officials said.

Air raid alerts in Kyiv and most Ukrainian regions lasted five hours until around 5am, according to military data.

Russia's estimated losses in war 'nearing one million'

Russia has lost 998,080 soldiers in combat since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the general staff of the armed forces of Ukraine said in a statement.

While the general staff did not specify, this figure is understood to include killed, wounded, missing and captured.

Further losses include nearly 11,000 tanks, 40,000 drones and almost 30,000 artillery systems, according to the general staff.

Maternity ward targeted in 'massive' Russian attack on Odesa, says Ukraine

Russia has hit the southern Ukrainian port city of Odesa with a "massive" overnight drone, says regional governor Oleh Kiper.

The attack targeted an emergency medical building and a maternity ward, leading to the evacuation of patients, he says.

A 59-year-old man was killed in the attack on a residential area and four people were injured.

Kiper shared footage of smashed hospital windows on Telegram.

Sky News cannot independently verify these battlefield reports.

Both sides deny targeting civilians in the war, but thousands of civilians have been killed, the vast majority of them Ukrainian.

NATO chief to call for 400% funding increase in air and missile defence

The secretary general of NATO will call for a 400% increase in funding for air and missile defences, during a speech in London today.

Mark Rutte has met with Sir Keir Starmer and John Healey, the defence secretary, this afternoon.

It comes ahead of a summit in The Hague later this month, when the UK and its NATO allies are expected to agree to pledge to spend 5% of GDP on defence and related areas.

Currently, the government is committed to spend 2.5% GDP on defence from April 2027, with a goal of increasing this to 3% over the next parliament.

Sky News understands the government will in fact increase defence spending to 3.5% of GDP within a decade to keep the US on side.

'Hope is not a strategy'

Speaking at Chatham House, Rutte will call for a "quantum leap in our collective defence".

He will say that "danger will not disappear even when the war in Ukraine ends".

The call for a 400% increase in air and missile defence will come because of how Russia "delivers terror from above".
