Ukraine war latest: Putin's forces unleash five-hour drone assault on Kyiv

Russia still talking to Ukraine over exchange of dead soldiers, Kremlin says

The Kremlin says it's still in talks with Kyiv over the return of the bodies of Ukrainian soldiers.

In an update this morning it said some bodies are still waiting inside refrigerated trucks for a handover.

It added that there is "no understanding" of how many dead Russian soldiers will be handed over by Ukraine.

Yesterday, groups of wounded and seriously wounded Ukrainian and Russian soldiers under the age of 25 were exchanged. It was the first stage in a handover agreed at talks between Kyiv and Moscow in Istanbul last week.

'A very heavy night for Ukraine'

Ukraine's chief rabbi has reacted to Russia's overnight strikes across the country.

Posting on X, Moshe Azman said the Russian army is "purposefully hitting residential buildings with Iranian-Russian drones".

How effective are Russia's drone attacks?

Yesterday, Sky News spoke with military analyst Professor Michael Clarke about the effectiveness of Russian drone and missile strikes on Ukraine.

He told presenter Gareth Barlow that the level of damage that can be inflicted cannot be underestimated, as evidenced by the loss of life across the country from such attacks.

He also pointed out that even though Ukraine's air force often manages to divert drones away from its cities using electronic warfare, the explosive warheads on them will still detonate when they land somewhere else.

However, Clarke explains that overnight drone attacks on cities have a larger effect on morale than on tactical battlefield results.

"Is it making a strategic difference? Probably not," he says.

"The things that make a difference for the Russians are the glide bombs - things that can affect the front lines.

"The drones are certainly bringing misery to the civilian population because they're forcing them to spend nights in the air raid shelters and in the tube stations in Kyiv rather than at home. So it has a morale effect."

The Wargame podcast: What if Russia attacked the UK?

By Deborah Haynes, Sky News security and defence editor

"The Russians are signalling that there may be - let's call it what it is - there may be an attack."

Fictional UK Home Secretary

The warning from the home secretary at an emergency Cobra meeting is stark. The prime minister must decide what to do after the Kremlin deployed a large task force of warships, fighter jets and submarines to the North Atlantic.

The whole of the United Kingdom is within range of their missiles.

This is the opening scene of a new five-part podcast series from Sky News and Tortoise called The Wargame. It simulates a Russian attack on the UK.

A year in the making, but recorded in just one day, The Wargame explores the reality of the threat that Vladimir Putin's Russia could pose to Britain, its people and normal, everyday life.

Three people were killed in Donetsk and eight others were injured, while one person was injured in Kharkiv, officials said.

ZelenAG百家乐在线官网y: Russian strikes drown out efforts for peace

Volodymyr ZelenAG百家乐在线官网y says overnight Russian strikes on Kyiv were among the largest the city has faced during the war so far.

Residential buildings and urban infrastructure sites were damaged in Ukraine's capital, with the Odesa, Dnipro and Chernihiv regions also targeted by Moscow.

ZelenAG百家乐在线官网y says Moscow's missiles and drone strikes "drown out" global efforts to force Russia into peace.

"It is vital that the response to this and other similar Russian attacks is not silence from the world, but concrete action," he says.

Russia launched 315 drones targeting chiefly Kyiv, Ukraine says

Ukraine's air force says Russia launched 315 drones and seven missiles at the country overnight.

The figure is a slight drop from the one reported yesterday, when Ukraine said Russia launched 479 drones and 20 missiles in what it called the biggest overnight bombardment of the war so far.

The main direction of the attack was Kyiv, the air force adds, with the Odesa, Dnipro and Chernihiv regions also targeted by Moscow.

It says of the 315 drones and seven missiles, 284 drones and all the missiles were destroyed.

Multi-story buildings across the city have been hit by Russian projectiles.

Firefighters can be seen continuing to tackle the smoke billowing from their charred facades.

Attack drones 'relentlessly terrorise' Ukrainian capital overnight

Russia "relentlessly terrorised" the Ukrainian capital with attack drones through the night, says the head of Kyiv's military district.

"They targeted civilian infrastructure and peaceful residents of the city," Timur Tkachenko says.

Countless loud explosions could be seen shaking the city and lighting up the night AG百家乐在线官网.

Photos and videos posted on Telegram channels showed heavy smoke rising in the darkness across different parts of Kyiv.

The attack sparked fires in residential and non-residential neighbourhoods and open space areas, city officials said.

Air raid alerts in Kyiv and most Ukrainian regions lasted five hours until around 5am, according to military data.
