Eyewitnesses have described scenes of horror when a terrorist drove his car at high-speed into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge before crashing his car into railings outside Parliament and then fatally stabbed a policeman.

ATTACK ON WESTMINSTER BRIDGE

:: Richard Tice: "I came out of Westminster tube station which was being locked down behind me (by police). I was ushered onto Westminster Bridge and looked onto the west pavement of the bridge and literally north to south I must have counted 8-10 prostrate figures on the ground.

"The whole length of the bridge there were people on the ground who had clearly been injured."

He described seeing "grey and black vehicles arriving with special forces in masks. Pretty dramatic scenes".

"And then the car just carried on up the bridge and I just looked around and was really in shock."

:: Steve Voake, 55: "I saw a trainer lying in the road and when I looked more closely I saw that there were a couple of bodies the other side of the road.

"And when I looked over the side there was another body lying in the water with blood all around it."

:: Alan Parry, from Sky Sports News: "I was just outside Westminster tube station when I heard an almighty crash and a vehicle that looked like a 4x4 had crashed into the railings (at parliament). There was smoke coming from underneath the bonnet. I saw a pedestrian or a cyclist who had clearly been hit.

"The driver of the car sprinted away from the scene. That was followed by four what sounded very much like gunshots. Then all of a sudden all hell was let loose and police descended everywhere. The whole area was locked down.

"It was a frightening couple of minutes."

MOMENT POLICE OFFICER WAS STABBED

:: Kevin Schofield: "We heard a very loud bang outside the press gallery. We heard lots of shouting, there were men running around. Then I looked to my left and someone rushed through gates at Westminster and attacked a policeman.

"Another policeman came and rescued him and the man who assaulted him got up and appeared to be carrying a knife. We heard lots of gunfire. Five or six rounds."

:: Don Brind, a researcher for MPs: "I heard some shouting and saw some running out of the corner of my eye and then a short time after that there was a shot.

"I looked and I saw a civilian on the ground, with somebody standing over him with what I assumed to be a gun.

"Then I looked and about 10 yards away, there was a yellow jacketed person on the ground, who appeared to be alive and talking."

He said he assumed the person in the high-visibility jacket was a police officer.

:: Jayne Wilkinson: "We were taking photos of Big Ben and we saw all the people running towards us, and then there was an Asian guy in about his 40s carrying a knife about seven or eight inches long.

"And then there were three shots fired, and then we crossed the road and looked over. The man was on the floor with blood.

"He had a lightweight jacket on, dark trousers and a shirt.

"He was running through those gates, towards Parliament, and the police were chasing him."

:: Frazer Clarke, 25, from Burton-on-Trent: "We heard a loud bang and screaming and then I noticed some smoke. I thought it was a car crash.

"I looked towards the front gate and people were running, a police officer and a fellow coming to the gate with two knives.

"He was stabbing the police officer with the knives. He was wearing black tracksuit bottoms, a black or grey top and what looked like work boots.

"The police officer was stumbling and fell on the floor.

"Another police officer walked toward the guy with the knives and shot him twice. I didn't think they were proper bullets, they seemed like rubber bullets."
