Inquests into the deaths of five people killed in last year's Westminster Bridge attack have begun.

Pen portraits of the victims were read out by their families, in a heartfelt series of tributes to those who died in the terror attack on 22 March 2017.

Kurt Cochran

Kurt Cochran was an American tourist visiting London with his wife. He had a profound love of music and built a recording studio with his own hands that many up-and-coming musicians passed through.

Having studied to be an engineer, maths and physics came easily to him.

Mr Cochran was "good at making people laugh" and "devoted to his wife Melissa and was adored by children", his sister said in her tribute.

The 54-year-old was the first to be killed, being knocked off Westminster Bridge and falling five metres onto a walkway below.

Leslie Rhodes

A retired window cleaner, Leslie Rhodes was 75 when he died.

He was a very private man, but kind and loyal and everyone loved him, his niece said in a pen portrait.

He was London born and bred and a pillar of his community. He was a window cleaner and many of his clients became his friends over the years.

Mr Rhodes was hit on the pavement on Westminster Bridge and dragged for 33 metres underneath the attacker's car.

Aysha Frade

Aysha Frade was a London-born committed Catholic, with Turkish and Spanish lineage.

She had her job relocated to Westminster before the attack and was worried about terrorism - but her family put it down to usual nervousness.

Ms Frade's husband John told the inquest he remembers her soul-warming smile being the thing he noticed about her when they first met.

He added that although she was passionate about her career, Ms Frade's true vocation become clear when she became a mother. She never stopped thinking or talking about her precious girls.

The 44-year-old was walking towards parliament when she was hit by the attacker's car, throwing her 17 metres into a bus lane, where a bus ran her over.

Andreea Cristea

Romanian Andreea Cristea ran a successful business and was an enthusiastic traveller.

Her dreams were shattered, the 31-year-old's family said, when she took her final trip to London and got caught up in the attack.

She was a life-loving young lady, they added.

Ms Cristea was the last to die after the attack on the bridge, having been flung over the balustrade and landing 12 metres below in the River Thames. She was pulled from the water and showed signs of life, but died in hospital two weeks later.

Keith Palmer

PC Keith Palmer was a police officer guarding the gates of parliament.

It was his dream job, and the 48-year-old was "always immaculately turned out and physically fit", the statement by his family said.

"He was that brave person who would stand his ground... his actions bought time for people inside the palace."

The inquest heard he was nominated for the "Thief Taker of the Year" award in 2015 for his high arrest rate.

PC Palmer was fatally stabbed in the courtyard as he tried to block the killer getting further into parliament.
