Young child in 'critical condition' after car hits pedestrians outside hospital

The child was airlifted for treatment at hospital, where they remain. Specialist officers are supporting the child's family, police say.

A young child who was injured after a car collided with pedestrians outside a hospital remains in a critical condition.

Dyfed-Powys Police said they continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision outside Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, at around 11.50am on Wednesday.

The infant was airlifted for hospital treatment in Cardiff, some 100 miles away, where they remain in a critical condition.

The child's parents were driven to hospital and are receiving support from specialist officers.

The driver of the car suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital. Their condition is described as "non-life threatening.

Two other people, a pedestrian and a passenger in the car, were taken to hospital and they have since been discharged.

Police remained at the scene of the incident until 5.30pm as they continued their investigations.

The force said local police teams will be providing "relevant support" in the coming days and weeks.

Withybush Hospital's director, Andrew Burns, said on Wednesday that services continued to "operate as normal".
