People in Tehran have been leaving towards the north of the country in large numbers, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reports.

The news agency notes that there is heavy traffic at all road exits from Tehran.

Earlier, new explosions echoed across Tehran and were reported elsewhere in the country.

Israeli strikes targeted Iran's Defence Ministry after hitting air defences, military bases and sites associated with its nuclear programme.

He also said attacks will end "when we remove" Iran's nuclear capabilities.

Who is Iran's supreme leader?

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei serves as commander-in-chief of the armed forces and controls the Revolutionary Guard.

More images are coming through of emergency crews at the scene of a damaged residential building in Tamra, northern Israel, after Iran's missile strike.
